Out of Africa, Into Zoo Boise
Friends of Zoo Boise has launched the Out of Africa, Into Zoo Boise Capital Campaign that will create a lasting and extraordinary legacy for the Treasure Valley community – the creation of an African Plains exhibit.
The
Out of Africa, Into Zoo Boise capital campaign to this $2.8 million exhibit will include an African village, two major exhibit areas for
lions, giraffes and
zebras, and three smaller ones for
lemurs,
rock hyrax and
weaver birds. The African Plains exhibit will encompass 3 of the zoos 11 acres, including the only remaining undeveloped ground, enabling Zoo Boise to expand our educational programs and fulfill the zoo’s master plan through the creation of three distinct geographic areas – Africa, Asia and the Americas.
The African Plains exhibit will be unlike any other exhibit at Zoo Boise or in the state of Idaho. It will be the first time the zoo has integrated aspects of other cultures into the zoo with the creation of the African village. The village will serve as a stage where we can introduce zoo visitors to the traditions, customs, economics and arts of East Africa.
