Program Theme: There are several factors that cause animals to become endangered. In addition, some animal species have behavioral or p

hysical characteristics that cause them to be more at risk for becoming an endangered species.
Program Activities: Through examining animal artifacts, visiting exhibits with a zoo guide, playing a “habitat island” game, and meeting an animal, students will explore the factors that cause animals to become endangered, which animals are more at risk for becoming endangered and how zoos are contributing to protection and preservation of endangered species.
Animal Group ProgramsChoose one group from mammals, birds, reptiles or insects.
Grade: 1st +
Program Theme: Each animal group has physical and behavioral characteristic that help them survive in their environment. Examples o

f these characteristics are camouflage, teeth shape teeth, skin coverings, and hunting behavior.
Program Activities: In the classroom, students will closely examine animal artifacts to determine the physical characteristics of each animal group. In addition, they will meet an animal up close and discover unique features of the animal and the features aid in its survival. The guided tour will visit animals specific to the animal group you are studying in your classroom.
When scheduling this program, please choose one animal group. We can also provide program on animal groups within Mammals, Birds or Reptiles. For example, if you are studying Mammals, we could conduct a program specifically on Primates or Hoofed Mammals.
