Wallaby Joey Bounces into Zoo Boise
4/12/2011
The Easter Bunny won’t be the only thing hopping around Zoo Boise this weekend. A wallaby baby, or joey, has recently made its appearance in the zoo’s Wallaby Walkabout exhibit.
The female joey is approximately 8 months old and still spends most of her time inside her mother’s pouch. In recent weeks, she has begun to adventure outside on her own for short periods of time. She will continue to call her mother’s pouch home for a few more months.
The Wallaby Walkabout currently features four Bennett’s wallabies and two Parma wallabies. Wallabies are small marsupials from Australia and related to kangaroos. Visitors are able to walk into the Wallaby Walkabout and see the wallabies up-close. Entrance into the Wallaby Walkabout is included with admission to Zoo Boise. The Wallaby Walkabout is open on weekends until May 15 and then daily through August. Visitors may still see the wallabies from outside their exhibit during weekdays.
Zoo Boise is currently looking for a sponsor for a community naming contest for the joey. Interested individuals or companies may contact the zoo.
Zoo Boise is hosting the 8th annual
Easter Eggstravaganza
on Sunday, April 17 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.
