1/29/2010
Interested in doing something wild?
How about something that will benefit the wild?
Make a difference - volunteer!
Zoo Boise is hosting an exciting variety of NEW adult volunteer positions to kick off 2010! As a zoo dedicated to conservation on a local and global level, we are aiming to provide volunteer opportunities for those interested in taking action! To be eligible for an interview, please complete a volunteer application and return to Zoo Boise by March 1st. Applications are available at the front gate and online by clicking on any opportunity link below, or at
http://www.zooboise.org/sponsorshipopportunities/volunteer.aspx. You can also call or email Zoo Boise’s Volunteer Coordinator at 384-4125 x 206 or ZooVolunteer@cityofboise.org.
Zoo Naturalist - Zoo Naturalists combine their knowledge about animals and ecology with the use of animal artifacts, exhibits and live animals to engage zoo visitors in a wildlife learning experience.
Animal Care– Volunteers assist Animal Care staff with exhibit maintenance (includes removing feces and dirty bedding from exhibits, cleaning exhibit glass), diet preparation and feeding of some animals,
animal observations, and preparing animal enrichments.
Conservation Cruise Captain - Volunteers will have the opportunity to educate Zoo Boise visitors while driving the Conservation Cruise across the lagoon into Africa.
Giraffe Feeding Station - Volunteers will be responsible for working with the Animal Care staff and visitors to conduct a morning public giraffe feeding.
Farm Feeding Station Attendant - Volunteers will educate visitors about the animals found in the Farm Feeding Station (yee-haw!), and help with goat and sheep feeding.
Wallaby Walk-about - Volunteers will provide an opportunity for visitors to walk through the wallaby exhibit and learn more about wallabies, habitat, and conservation.
Southern Idaho Ground Squirrel (SIGS) Conservation Team - Volunteers will monitor
success of re-introducing SIGS species into native habitat. They will be responsible to provide supplemental feed to squirrels, track and monitor squirrels with radio collars, identify and map burrows, and conduct simple observations of activity and behavior.
We also have our exciting Spring events coming up that we’d love to have your help with! Applications are not required to volunteer for Easter EGGstravaganza on Saturday, March 27th or for Zoo Daze on Sunday, May 16th. If you’re not 18 yet, but looking to make a difference, check out our Zoo Teen program and apply before April 1st
